Local New Sustainable Farm business Lizzy’s Family Farmstead, LLC is pleased to announce its startup. This Farm is new to the area and will offer sustainable farm products {Fresh produce, CSA Produce Boxes, Broiler Chicken, Turkey and Farm Fresh Eggs, Homemade Baked Goods & Catering via our 2 Chefs} for all families, individuals, restaurants, local businesses and grocers, etc.

Lizzy’s Family Farmstead, LLC is a new farm business utilizing sustainable farming practices. Our commitment is never to use synthetic or artificial fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides and NO GMO’s. All of our produce will be started from seed on the farm in the field or in our greenhouse. Lizzy’s Family Farmstead, LLC has made a choice not to pursue organic certification by the USDA. We will comply with all the USDA standards but we feel strongly that 3rd party verification will not necessary on our farm. Our CSA members and our consumers will have the ability come to the farm and certify for themselves that we use all natural sustainable practices.

Our Chicken and Turkey will also be a very important part of our farm. We will be raising chickens both layers and broilers and Turkeys for broilers only. We strive to provide our animals with environments that best suits their instinctual needs. Our chickens and turkeys will be pastured and fed organic grain and will foliage on their own fresh produce garden. Our commitment is not to use Steriods, Hormones or Antibiotics when raising our fowl.

Through our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program we will work to build the community through the program by encouraging member involvement in the farm that offers hands-on learning about sustainable farming, seasonal and fresh food that will help bring families together for not only Sustainable Produce, Turkey, Chicken and Eggs but some good Old Fashioned Home Cooked and Canned Foods along with some Catering via our 2 Chefs on Staff. This will also assist in supporting a locally based sustainable food system, reducing the need and interest for community members to source out-of-region food from grocery stores.

As first-generation Sustainable farmers, we feel it is important for consumers to know where their food is coming from and how it is produced. Lizzy’s Family Farmstead, LLC will create a tour schedule which will allow CSA members and customers to see our operation and get to know us. CSA’s are now an extraordinary food movement sweeping the country. It's strongly associated with organic foods, sustainable agriculture and the local food movement. The biggest difference between CSA and conventional retail food whether at a store or even farmers' market is the commitment of the subscriber to a farm to purchase a season worth of produce.

Participants in a CSA farm program pay in advance before the start of the season for a share of the farm's harvest. In turn, they receive a portion of farm products each week throughout the growing season. Prepayment gives the small farmer operating capital for the year's production, and helps the farmer plan the planting and harvest schedule. The vegetables that you find each week in your share are what we are harvesting at that time.

Note that we will always have greens for salads, cooking, or both along with some type of herb(s). The selection changes during the season; at the beginning, you may find predominantly greens and herbs, which mature quickly and later more of the long-season items such as root vegetables. Items will be placed in a CSA bag or CSA box marked with the member’s name. If you are going on vacation you can have a friend or neighbor pick up you share. But, don't worry none of the vegetables go to waste, all the produce left after the CSA pick up will be delivered to a food pantry or community kitchen.
